Sakura Matsuri 2011

A few weekends ago was the Sakura Matsuri street Festival in Washington, DC. We've had this plan to make yukata and wear them to the festival for a long time, and we finally go to do it this year!

Cupcake yukata and Lemon-Lime Yukata

Wearing yukata was really fun, and I hope we'll be able to get more photos of these during the summer months.

Gigantic Katsucon Post!

In February, we attended Katsucon in National Harbor, MD. Gotta say: we love love LOVE this convention more than ever since it moved to the Gaylord National. This place is so fabulous.

We made and took with us costumes from Assassins's Creed II, Eternal Sonata, Ouran High School Host Club, and Sailor Moon. Photos are courtesy of our amazing friends Eurobeat King and Deathcom Multimedia.

Ezio and Courtesans from Assassins Creed II, Mace Guy from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Polka and Salsa from Eternal Sonata
Craftsmanship Award: Jennifer's Judges Award

Princess Neptune and Princess Uranus from Sailor Moon Artbook

Amakusa Benio and Maihara Chizuru from Ouran High School Host Club

We had way too much fun prancing around all weekend, and were so excited to receive a craftsmanship award for our Eternal Sonata costumes! See you next year, Katsucon <3

Making Mikuo

We're working on a commission for a Mikuo (Vocaloid) shirt. The main fabric is dull satin, and the sleeve extensions are stretch sateen. Ohh, how we love sateen. All that's left is to trim the sleeves and shirt bottom in teal, install the zipper, iron on the embellishment transfers, add a neck band to the tie, and sew up the sides! Altering the pattern for this was pretty tedious, but it was well worth the work.

Oh, scarves!

Winter is (usually) cold in Virginia, so it's the season for making scarves at C&C.

First, a plushy faux-fur leopard scarf/stole:

A small cowl crocheted with baby alpaca in painted pink:

And a Forum Longcat fleece scarf:

Distract the Authorities.

We're making Assassin's Creed 2 courtesan cosplay for Katsucon! Well, Lauren has made hers, and Christina needs to catch up. Lauren's dress is made of crepe-back satin and features some lovely hand-dyed lace applique on the bodice. It's supported by white steel boning, and laces up the back. The costume is based on this piece of concept art from AC2. We'll be joined by the ever-awesome Shelby of Itami Designs and possibly our longtime co-conspirator Michelle to make a fabulous gaggle of Renaissance street-walkers.

And so...on to photos!

Sample Batch

A small selection of the purses, clutches, and wallets that found new homes this past weekend via the Fiber Arts Alley at Nekocon. Lauren and I sold lots of goods and got to talk to a ton of people at the convention, and we were able to send many of our costumes to new owners! Our closet is so happy and uncluttered, now. We're taking a short break, then spending some time working on finishing several dresses and a few other clothing projects (flannel Hello Kitty pajama set, anyone?).
